Early paper foundation piecing was typically utilitarian, with fabric scraps hand or machine-stitched onto pages from a telephone book or the Sears catalog. Today’s designers employ foundation piecing to create intricately detailed and complex designs that include sharp points and realistic imagery.
Contemporary paper pieced quilts go far beyond traditional artwork, enabling textile artists and quilters to create crisp renderings of visions both abstract and realistic. This exhibit grew from my personal appreciation for both techniques and is based on aesthetics and my desire to show how diverse the works are that can be created with paper patterns.
